Glassworks Mfg. is a family owned and operated business located in Sweetwater, Tennessee.
Master glass blowers August Bopp and Van Camp have over 60 years combined experience producing beautiful and unique handmade glass art.
Each piece is made from durable solid pyrex glass rods melted at the tip of a torch by a flame which may reach 3,000 degrees being fueled by a combination of oxygen and propane. This type of glasswork is known as lampworking.
After being made, many pieces are immediately placed in a special oven to prevent cracks and enhance strength.
The final step is to apply glass stains, lusters, 24-karat liquid gold, silver or platinum to add color and brillance. Many colors must be baked up to 1,200 degrees in a ceramic oven to complete the process.
